On the morning of April 18th, Krasimira Tsaneva-Atanasova, associate dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the University of Exeter, led a delegation to visit the Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University. Prof. Zhang Qiang, deputy director of the department, and Prof. Lin Yanluan, assistant to the department head, met with the guests.

On behalf of the department, Prof. Zhang Qiang expressed warm welcome to the delegation.He briefed the guests on the history, development goals, research directions and research progress of the department. Prof. Zhang Qiang said that the department and the University of Exeter have a good foundation for cooperation.The Tsinghua University-Exeter University Joint Doctoral Program Agreement was signed in 2017.Since then, Tsinghua University has sent students to the University of Exeter every year for joint training. One of the students will participate in the first joint defense meeting held at Tsinghua University in May, and receive a joint doctoral degree from the two universities upon graduation.

Krasimira Tsaneva-Atanasova expressed her pleasure to have the opportunity to visit the Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University. She said that the University of Exeter and the department had always maintained a very close cooperative relationship in the field of geosciences. She personally attached great importance to cooperation with the Department of Earth System Science.Prof. Gavin Shaddick then gave a brief introduction to the Department of Engineering, the Department of Mathematics, the School of Physical Sciences and the Met Office of the University of Exeter, in particular the University of Exeter's outstanding advantages in environmental intelligence research.

The two sides expressed the hope that in the future, they would be able to conduct more in-depth cooperation in scientific research and student training.

After the meeting, Alberto Arribas, a joint professor at the University of Exeter and the UK Meteorological Office and director of the Informatics Laboratory, gave a lecture entitledA new paradigm for Environmental Scienceson the Zijing Forum.
