On the afternoon of April 23, William Summerskill, senior executive editor ofThe Lancet, andHelena Wang, the Asian executive editor ofThe Lancet, invited by Prof. Gong Peng, director of the Department of Earth System Science and director of the Institute for China Sustainable Urbanization, Tsinghua University, participated in the kick-off meeting of two reports on ecological civilization and health and the progress of China's healthy cities.The meeting was presided over by Prof. Gong.

First, William Summerskill introduced the significance and workflow of the special invited reporting committee. He introduced the purpose, scale, and personnel requirements of the committee, and explained the key factors for the successful operation of the committee. Finally, he introduced the areas of interest of several Chinese special invited reporting committees established byThe Lancet.

Prof. Gong introduced the preliminary ideas of the invited report on ecological civilization and health prepared by him and associate Prof. Cai Wenjia, and some members' suggestions. Then the two editors gave positive suggestions. Participants also made constructive comments on the content of the report.

Prof. Yang Jun from the Department of Earth System Science, Tsinghua University, introduced the preparatory work for the report titledChina Health City Progresson the basis of the invited report titledChina Health Cityin 2018. The progress of the report was actively supported by the two editors and also enthusiastically responded to by the participants. Tan Xiaochuan, office director of the Institute for China Sustainable Urbanization, and Lv Xiaohe, deputy office director of the Institute for China Sustainable Urbanization, attended the meeting.
