On September 1, the Department of Earth System Science(DESS) held an online meeting of all teachers to convey and learn the spirit of the National Graduate Education Conference. All teachers and staff of DESS attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Luo Yong, secretary of the Party branch.

Zhang Qiang, deputy dean of the teaching department, first conveyed the main spirit of the National Graduate Education Conference. He read out the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the work of graduate education and the full text of the important instructions of Premier Li Keqiang, and conveyed the main content of the speeches by Vice Premier Sun Chunlan and Minister Chen Baosheng at the conference. Combining with President Qiu Yong’s deployment requirements for Tsinghua’s next stage of postgraduate education, he briefly reviewed the important measures taken by DESS in recent years in postgraduate education, and proposed to further strengthen the construction of graduate courses and reform the doctoral qualification examination system in the future. Improve discipline evaluation standards, and strengthen ideological and political education and employment guidance, etc. The DESS will focus on improving the quality of graduate training.

Next, Zhang Qiang, according to the school's overall requirements for integrated interactive teaching in the autumn semester, arranged in detail the various tasks of DESS to carry out integrated interactive teaching. He said that integrated interactive teaching this semester is more complicated than online teaching in the spring semester, and all teachers in DESS must attach great importance to it. Zhang Qiang introduced the classroom software and hardware support provided by the school classroom, and suggested that each teacher should go to the transformed classroom according to the registration center to practice operation in the following week, so as to find problems and solve them as soon as possible, and get familiar with the integrated interactive teaching method of this semester. Afterwards, the teachers had a heated discussion on learning the spirit of the National Graduate Education Conference and carrying out interactive teaching.                            

All the teachers' meeting also discussed the evaluation preparation work of the Key Laboratory of Earth System Numerical Simulation of the Ministry of Education. Huang Xiaomeng, deputy director of the laboratory, introduced various evaluation preparation materials. The teachers at the meeting discussed the assessment materials in detail from the framework of the assessment report to the naming conventions of each research project. The teachers expressed that they will actively improve the evaluation materials, carefully prepare various tasks, and strive to achieve good results in the evaluation work.
