Zijing Forum of Global Change Science, the 384th Session

Topic: Multi-layer Air-Land Interaction Process and Climatic Effect in Areas with Complicated Topography: From Tibetan Plateau to Third Pole and Pan-Third Pole

Speaker: Researcher Ma Yaoming, the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP) , Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)

Time: 15:00-17:00, April 15, 2022 (Friday)

Venue: S818, Mong Man Wai Technology Building, Tsinghua University

Tencent Meeting: 349 538 707

Introduction to the Lecture:

The high topography of the Tibetan Plateau leads to the interaction between the surface of the plateau and the atmosphere, and the atmospheric boundary layer process is very important to the weather process and climate change in the plateau itself and its surrounding areas. This report focuses on the process of air-ground interaction and atmospheric boundary layer in the Tibetan Plateau, and systematically summarizes the research progress in observation and experiment of multi-layer air-ground interaction and atmospheric boundary layer process, remote sensing estimation of surface and atmospheric heat sources and surface evapotranspiration by satellite, and numerical simulation of air-ground interaction process and climate effect. Finally, the development direction of future research is put forward.

Profile of the Speaker:

Ma Yaoming, Ph.D. (atmospheric science) from Okayama University, Japan and Ph.D. (environmental science) from Wageningen University, Netherlands. He is Second-class Researcher and Doctoral Supervisor of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP) , the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Distinguished Research Fellow and Professor of the CAS, Academic Director of the Mount Qomolangma National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Special Atmospheric Processes and Environmental Changes in Xizang, and Director of the Qomolangma Atmospheric and Environmental Observation Station of the CAS (2005-2019). He is mainly engaged in atmospheric boundary layer observation and satellite remote sensing application research. He has been in charge of nearly 20 national major scientific research programs, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and projects of the Distinguished Youth Fund, and is one of the two Chinese general coordinators of major international cooperative research programs GAME/Tibet and CAMP/Tibet. During the implementation of these projects, the team headed by Researcher Ma Yaoming, "Earth-atmosphere Interaction and Climate Effect 0n the Tibetan Plateau", has established more than ten multi-layer multi-process comprehensive observation and research stations and more than twenty multi-layer earth-atmosphere interaction observation stations on the Tibetan Plateau, and obtained a large number of field observation data, which were released to the public. Researcher Ma has published more than 400 academic papers in important journals at home and abroad, and one English monograph. He won the Outstanding Youth Award of Meteorological Science and Technology in 2006, was supported by the National Outstanding Youth Fund in 2008, and was selected into the National "New Century Talents Project" in 2009.
