Abstract:

The estimation accuracy of remote sensing products for surface downward radiation flux (longwave/ shortwave, photosynthetically active and ultraviolet radiation) is mainly affected by cloud, aerosol, gas, terrain and other parameters, among which cloud and heavy haze have a significant impact. In this study, a new algorithm for cloud detection and haze identification is constructed based on the data of the new generation of geostationary satellites Himawari-8 and FY-4, remote sensing products for all-weather cloud characteristics and surface downward radiation are developed based on the principle of radiation transmission, and the accuracy of the above remote sensing products is evaluated by using ground observation data and CALIPSO and CERES satellite data, which proves that the developed remote sensing products have high calculation accuracy. As an application study, this study also analyzes the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of cloud characteristics and surface radiation balance parameters in North China, Tibetan Plateau and East Asia.

Speaker Profile:

Husi Letu is a researcher of the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, a doctoral supervisor and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. The projects he has participated in include the National Key R&D Program (subject facilitator), the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research Project (co-leader), etc. In recent 5 years, he has published more than 50 SCI papers, including more than 20 papers in which he is the first author or corresponding author. He is now the chairman (initiator) of CARE International Symposium on Atmospheric Cloud Radiation.

Husi Letu mainly studies high-precision remote sensing of cloud characteristics. Focusing on the international advanced remote sensing of cloud characteristics, he has proposed a method for simultaneous identification of cloud and haze and a new algorithm for inversion of ice cloud parameters, and developed an inversion algorithm and remote sensing product for water cloud characteristic parameters. These new algorithms have been officially adopted by four international satellite programs, and applied for cloud characteristics and surface radiation by several domestic satellites (GF-5 and Fengyun Series).
