On April 10, A/Prof. Yu Le of the Department of Earth System Science (DESS) was invited to teach an online course on the theme of "Global Land Cover/Use Mapping" at the spring school training of SUFOGIS (GIS and Remote Sensing for Sustainable Forestry and Ecology), an Erasmus+ project in the European Union. A/Prof. Yu Le lectured the participants on the knowledge of global land cover/land use mapping, reviewed the history, methods and products of global land cover/land use mapping, and introduced research cases and achievements in fields such as crop and forestry mapping.

Erasmus+ is a large-scale cooperation program set up by the European Commission in the field of higher education for the purpose of promoting academic research exchanges and talent training among universities in EU member countries worldwide. The main purpose of the SUFOGIS project is to promote the application of geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) technology in sustainable forestry and ecology. By sharing cutting-edge technologies in related fields, this project promotes the communication between European countries and China in the field of GIS and RS technologies, boosts the cooperation among research institutions and companies in related fields in the transformation of intellectual property rights, enhances the research level of related countries in the field of forestry ecology supported by GIS and RS technologies, and upgrades the scientific literacy of researchers.

The SUFOGIS spring school training was conducted online from April 8 to 23, 2022, and experts and scholars from famous universities and research institutes at home and abroad, such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were invited to deliver lectures. The topics covered vegetation remote sensing, ecological remote sensing, land remote sensing and other fields. Meanwhile, enterprise experts from the industry were invited to train students in software operation and introduce enterprise cases. Training is of profound significance to promoting the development of disciplinary education, boosting the deep Industry-University-Research integration and upgrading the level of international exchanges.
