On June 12, the teaching work seminar of the Department of Earth System Science (DESS) was held in the multi-functional hall of the Mengminwei Science and Technology Building. As an important part of the 25th Educational Work Seminar of Tsinghua University, the theme of the conference is to further implement the "Trinity" teaching philosophy, discuss the major issues of the graduate education training program and curriculum system of the department. The undergraduate education and support system is also explored to lay a solid foundation for the enrollment of undergraduate students in the future.

At the seminar, Wang Yanfen, Vice President of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Hu Yongyun, Director of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, School of Physics, Peking University; Liu Hongyan, Associate Dean of College of Urban and Environmental Sciences; and Zhao Bin, Professor of School of Life Sciences, Fudan University, introduced the student’s training program , curriculum systems, teaching initiatives, recruitment and employment of their units respectively, and stressed that a deep integration of teaching, researching, and practice have played a significant role in creating an ideal academic atmosphere.

Peng Gang, deputy dean and head of the Academic Affairs Office of Tsinghua University, introduced the background and progress of the Tsinghua University 25th educational work seminar. He hoped that the DESS would continue to improve the quality of education and research through implementation of the fruits of the conference.

Prof. Gong Peng, dean of the college of science and the director of the DESS, advised that this seminar should focus on the challenges faced by the development of the discipline, the responsibility of the teachers, the academic innovation under the globalization process and the long-term development of the Tsinghua University. He also shared some thoughts about undergraduate students enrollment in the discipline of geosciences.

Luo Yong was giving a special report

Luo Yong, deputy director of the DESS, introduced the education policy of atmospheric science undergraduate and postgraduate of Peking University and Nanjing University, and made a comparison with the DESS. He suggested that some measures may be adopted after adjustment to better fit the needs of the department.

The participated teachers and students actively joined the discussions on the topics of subject construction, incentive systems, curriculum settings, academic guidance and teacher-student relationship promotion. The 2ed teaching workshop this year will be held at the end of August.
