Introduction to the Lecture:

With the rapid development of big data, the evaluation of data quality and model accuracy has become a hot issue in big data research, taking up a core position in the development of science. Most of the existing statistical indicators only evaluate the unilateral accuracy of the model, but lack an overall comprehensive evaluation of the data or the model. The latest Nature research shows that the traditional ensemble averaging method is subject to great uncertainty in the selection of CMIP6 model, which leads to unreasonable conclusions on climate change (Hausfather et al., 2022). Therefore, it is imperative to develop a new evaluation system.

To address the above problems, our team has built a CCHZ-DISO big data evaluation system, in which CCHZ comes from the initials of the surnames of the main contributors: C from Researcher Chen Xi, C comes from Academician Chen Deliang, H from Researcher Hu Zengyun and Z from Professor Zhou Qiming; and DISO is the abbreviation for “distance between indices of simulation and observation”.

The core theory informing the construction of CCHZ-DISO is Euclidean Distance for calculating the distance of statistical indicators. The types and numbers of statistical indicators are selected completely in accordance with the researchers' own research needs. The weights of different statistical indicators provide corresponding calculation schemes. The construction of CCHZ-DISO reflects the idea that the greatest truths are the simplest. The system can be applied to any discipline involving data comparison.

Profile of the Speaker:

Dr. Hu Zengyun is a researcher at the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). As a national young talent, he has been engaged in interdisciplinary research on environmental change and human health for a long time. His research fields cover environmental change, prediction, early warning and risk assessment of infectious diseases, and impact of environmental change on human health, among others. He has published 55 papers in journals such as JC, JGR and JOH.
