On August 28, 2024, Professor Liu Li from the Department of Earth System Science (DESS), Tsinghua University led more than 30 doctoral students of Class 2024 to China Meteorological Administration (CMA), visiting Huafeng Meteorological Media Group, National Climate Center, China Meteorological Science and Technology Exhibition Hall and Central Meteorological Observatory.
At the China Weather Media Center of Huafeng Meteorological Media Group, students gained a profound insight into the workflow of weather forecast hosts. Staff at the National Climate Center presented students with an overview of key climate monitoring and forecasting products, including crop disaster risk prevention planning, wind power generation potential assessments, and climate ecological value transformation. They also guided students through observing the process of utilizing the latest meteorological data and advanced numerical models to discuss and assess meteorological information. In the China Meteorological Science and Technology Exhibition Hall, the commentator briefed the students on the development of the meteorological industry in China. At the Central Meteorological Observatory, staff explained how the observatory fulfills its duties and missions and follows the principle of “minimizing harm and maximizing benefit” to conduct weather monitoring and forecasting, provide meteorological services, and undertake international responsibilities.
