On August 28, 2024, the Department of Earth Science System (DESS), Tsinghua University held an orientation session covering scholarship policy, Tsinghua spirit and course selection. Du Hanrui, director of the Moral Education Office of the Graduate Work Department of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, Yu Le, head of the Graduate Student Affairs Office of the DESS, Chen Yawei, head of Student Affairs Office of the DESS, and Peng Xiaojuan, the educational administrator, attended the session. More than 30 new doctoral students of Class 2024 from the DESS participated in the session.

Yu Le presented Tsinghua University's policies on scholarships and financial aid, along with the necessary application material requirements. He emphasized that scholarship evaluations adhere to the scientific principles of "prioritizing virtue and fostering innovation," urging students to generate more innovative research outcomes. Feng Junning, a PhD student from Grade 2023, DESS shared tips for completing scholarship application forms and illustrated the process of preparing scholarship application materials through examples.

Du Hanrui delivered a speech titled “Fostering All-round Education and Training Top-notch Talent.” Tracing back to Tsinghua's history, she elaborated on the evolution of the Tsinghua spirit, recounted tales of well-rounded Tsinghua alumni, and exhorted the attendees to map out their career paths with a national perspective, urging them to venture where the motherland needs them most and excel wherever the party and the people require their contributions.

At the end of the event, Peng Xiaojuan and Li Fubin, a Ph.D. candidate of Grade 2021 in the DESS, introduced the postgraduate training programs and led students through a simulated course selection process.
