On September 22th, CSCS establishing meeting, as well as the 1st council board meeting was held in Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology. During the meeting, Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Qin Dahe was selected as chairman of the 1st association’ council, and CESS Professor Luo Yong was selected as vice chairman. Besides, there are 104 members of council and 41 executive directors being selected in this meeting.

Chinese Society of Cryospheric Science consists of 15 committees, including major of glaciers, gelisols, snows, sea ice & fresh-water ice，cryospheric hydrology, cryospheric ecology, cryspheric climate, cryospheric remote sensing & information, cryospheric & sustainable development, polar cryosphere, cryospheric climate environment record, cryospheric &quatermary research, planetary cryosphere, cold zone & disaster, cryosphere and geopolitics, et al. Now, there are 41 institution members, and CSCS is located in National Key laboratory of cryosphere science, Northwest Institution, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Under the background of global warming, the interaction between cryosphere and other spheres has great effects on global and regional water cycle, carbon cycle, atmosphere circulation, biodiversity, spatial distribution of ecology system and social sustainable development.With 41 academicians jointly appealing and 28 academic institutions and universities jointly initiating, Chinese Society of Cryospheric Science established. As the first national academic group of cryospheric science in the world, its establishment will promote Chinese cryospheric science research and be a new start and chance for Chinese cryospheric science development, as well as gather domestic and abroard academic resources and social support for cryospheric science. CSCS will provide a new platform for cooperation communication about Chinese cryospheric science.
