Invited by the International Sustainability Unit of The Prince of Wales's Charitable Foundation, Professor Peng Gong in the Center for Earth System Science at Tsinghua University attended a forum on Climate Change & Health, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in London on February 25, 2015. As the initiator, Prince Charles attended the meeting and participated in the discussion in the afternoon. Discussions were carried out regarding climate change and health issues, and how to highlight human health in future international climate negotiations. Major findings was delivered on a Lancet commission article entitled “Greenhouse gas emissions and the climate change: emergency efforts to protect human health” jointly authored by faculty members from European Research Institutions and Tsinghua University. In addition, another Lancet commission entitled “Safeguarding the human health in the Anthropocene Epoch” with participations from Tsinghua faculty was also introduced.

During his conversation with Prince Charles, Professor Gong highly appreciated his efforts on protecting our environment and human health, and introduced to him the environmental protection strategies made in China through artificial cultivation of Chinese herbal medicines, and achievements of defeating malaria through promotion of Chinese arteannuin in Africa by the United Nations, in accordance to the prince’s attention to traditional Chinese medicine and environmental protection.
