23 , June , CESS held a 2014 interim progress workshop on facing CMIP6 Earth System Model Development , Tsinghua in Mong Man Wai Building . More than 10 member of the Model group introduced process in atmospheric circulation patterns , ocean circulation patterns , sea ice patterns , carbon cycling , couplers , tuning platform , regional models and data platforms and arrangements on the second half year . Then they discussed on the issues and challenges faced now on .

With half year’s efforts , models group of CESS have made a big process in dynamic frame algorithm research , improvements on convection, clouds, radiation, aerosol physics program , coupling atmospheric chemistry models and atmospheric circulation patterns , C-Coupler coupling platform , construction on model parameter optimization platform and data platform ，improvement and development of the marine and terrestrial carbon cycle model and the socio-economic model , construction of regional climate models , design of sea ice models , evaluation based on C-Coupler models , which will benefit the successful completion of 2014 plan . Meanwhile , they are also faced with some difficulties such as computer resources and storage resources are not enough , component mode version is not uniform , atmospheric chemistry and biogeochemical processes and the development of climate models is difficult to converge or uncoordinated . After discussion and communication , all of them realized the importance of corporation of model development and necessity of organic combination of independent development and updated introduction . Further launch of models development will promote the urgent needs of hardware supporting to CESS and Tsinghua .
