Introduction to the Lecture:

Starting from the major needs of preventing and mitigating disasters and coping with climate change, aiming at the core scientific objectives of major international scientific and technological plans such as the World Climate Research Program, this talk will analyze and judge the importance of developing and constructing a refined simulation and prediction system of the earth's climate environment in China, list major issues such as geo-engineering research, flood and landslide and debris flow prediction, and describe key scientific issues and some research developments.

 

Profile of the Speaker:

Wang Huijun is Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor of the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Director of the Academic Committee of the University. He is currently Chairman of the Chinese Meteorological Society (CMS) and Member of the Joint Scientific Committee of the World Climate Research Program (WCRP), Chairman of the China Climate Research Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Atmospheric and Ocean Science Letters and Journal of Atmospheric Science and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Science Bulletin.

 

He has won the second prize of National Natural Science Award (as First Author), Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award, Lu Jia-Xi Excellent Postgraduate Supervisor Award, etc. He has published more than 300 SCI-indexed papers. Now he is the Chief Scientist of the Basic Science Center for Climate System Prediction Research of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Chief Scientist of major projects. His research interests are climate change, paleoclimate simulation, East Asian climate variation and its prediction.
