Abstract

A sudden outbreak ofCoronavirus (COVID-19) spread around the world, causing a great loss of life and health to the people, resulting in the suspension of social activities and severe economic setbacks. Why is there no solution to the spread of a new deadly virus in today's highly developed economy and technology? Through the analysis of the important characteristics ofCOVID-19, this lecture discusses how to objectively understand the social meaning and inevitable factors of the emergence of the "contemporary great plague", and from the human survival and development of the resource needs, trace the outbreak of the conditions, discuss countermeasures.

Presenter Profile

WangYu is a distinguished professor ofDepartment of Earth System Science atTsinghua university and a former director of the ChineseCenter for Disease Control and Prevention. Research areas include pathogenic microbiology, disease surveillance and control; national health management based on medical and health big data and precision medicine; environmental impact assessment, healthy city development and solutions. Professor Wang Yu has participated in and presided over a number of national scientific and technological research projects, "863", "973" and Natural Science Foundation projects, and organized and led the handling of major public health events such as human infection with avian influenza and influenza pandemic. He is the executive director of the Chinese medical association and a member of the academic working committee, a member of the National Certification and Accreditation Standardization Committee, and a member of the World Health Organization's Western Pacific Region Polio Eradication Expert Committee.
