Brief Introduction of the Lecture:

Soil is the largest active carbon pool on the earth surface, and soil organic carbon (SOC) plays an important role in the global carbon cycle and climate system. However, the stabilization mechanism of soil organic carbon and its response to global change are the most unclear parts of global carbon cycle research and climate change model. In view of the difficulty of studying the complex composition of soil organic matter, Feng Xiaojuan's research group has developed the analytical method system of “soil carbon molecular behavior” by using organic geochemical methods at the molecular level. On this basis, the molecular composition and stability mechanism of soil organic carbon were analyzed in depth, which provided key scientific evidence for changing the traditional understanding of the source and stability of soil organic carbon. This report will focus on the differences in the stability of different soil organic carbon molecular components and their response mechanisms to global change.

Brief introduction of the presenter:

Feng Xiaojuan, PhD, researcher. She graduated from Peking University in 2003 and received Her doctorate from the University of Toronto in 2009. From 2009 to 2013, She carried out postdoctoral research at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and Zurich Federal Institute of Technology. In 2013, She joined the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is currently the deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Vegetation and Environmental Change. She was awarded “Youqing” by the Fund Committee and “Youth 973” by the Ministry of Science and Technology (Excellent in Final Evaluation). She was awarded the Young Scientist Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Youth Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Society of Ecology. Researcher Feng Xiaojuan has been engaged in biogeochemistry and global change for a long time, mainly using geochemical methods at the molecular level, such as biomarkers and monomeric 14C, to study the cycle of soil organic carbon in the land-river system and its response to global change. As the first or corresponding author, She has published more than 30 papers in journals such as PNAS, Nature Geoscience, Nature Communications and so on.
