Brief Introduction of the Lecture:

Because of the significant influence of human activities on the Earth's layers, the International Commission on Stratigraphy considers that the Earth has entered a new geological era of “Anthropocene”. As the main component of the earth surface system, the change of the biosphere is a major scientific issue of general concern to scientists and environmental policy makers. As the core component of the biosphere, the growth of vegetation not only indicates how climate change affects the biosphere, but also has an important feedback effect on the whole earth system through the interaction of vegetation-soil-atmosphere-water and other spheres. Therefore, since the 1990s, the study of vegetation growth change has developed rapidly, and new problems and controversies have emerged. This report presents the observational evidence, the driving mechanisms, and the feedback to the climate system of global vegetation growth increase, i.e., Vegetation greening, since the 1980s.

Brief introduction of the presenter:

Piao Shilong, doctor, professor. He is mainly engaged in the study of the interaction between global change and terrestrial ecosystem. He is the member of editorial board of Global Change Biology and Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, also a member of Global Carbon Project (Global Carbon Project) Committee. He led author of the Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). More than 120 papers have been published by the first or corresponding authors, and the research results have been selected as “Ten News of Basic Research in China in 2009” and “Ten Scientific and Technological Progress in Chinese Colleges and Universities in 2013”.
