Abstract

Life originates from water. Where there is water, there are aquatic organisms, which are at the heart of the water ecosystem. The water body and its ecosystem are the cradle of human civilization. With the rapid development of the social economy, the water ecosystem has fallen into a great dilemma: water environment pollution, water ecology damage, and water shortage.Discussing the problem of water only from the perspective of water is far from solving the huge challenges we face.It is necessary to sort out the ideas from a higher level and carry out ecological integration research at the watershed scale.The life community of mountains, rivers, forests, fields and lakes is the watershed ecosystem, but the ecology within the watershed is not the watershed ecology.The core of watershed ecology is the relationship between water and land. This report will interpret and reflect on aquatic organisms and aquatic biology, the main problems faced, the integration of ecological research - watershed ecology and the work of Xiangxi River Ecological Station in the past 20 years.

Researcher Cai Qinghua, Ph.D., is currently a member of the National Wetland Science and Technology Expert Committee, a member of the National Water Specialist Basin Thematic Expert Group, executive director of the Ecological Society of China and director of the Basin Ecological Special Committee, director of Xiangxi River Ecological Environment Observation and Research Station, and stationmaster of the Xiangxi River Ecosystem Experimental Station of the Three Gorges Reservoir,Chinese Academy of Sciences / China Three Gorges Corporation.
