Abstract

Subtropical anticyclones over eastern oceans are fundamental elements of the atmospheric circulation. Marine boundary layer (MBL) clouds over the same regions play a vital role in the Earth’s climate system. Previous studies found that the subtropical MBL clouds are actively coupled with the subtropical anticyclone and local SSTs over the North Pacific. Whether such couplings exist in the North Atlantic has not been systematically investigated. This talk will introduce the dynamical and thermodynamical interactions between the summertime MBL clouds, North Atlantic subtropical high (NASH) circulation, and local SSTs in the subtropical North Atlantic. Detailed processes will be addressed.
