On May 11, 2024, the Department of Earth System Science (DESS), Tsinghua University held the Seminar on Teaching Work in Spring Seminar, 2024 in Meeting Room 707 of the Central Main Building. Academician Chen Deliang of Gothenburg University and Wang Shuaiguo, Director of Tsinghua xuetangX, were invited to attend the meeting. Luo Yong, Dean of the DESS, Tsinghua University, Geng Rui, Secretary of the Party Committee, Zhang Qiang, Deputy Dean of the Department, Lu Hui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, all faculty members of the DESS and staff of the Office of Party and Government Affairs of the department attended the meeting. Deputy Dean Lin Yanluan hosted the meeting.

Wang Shuaiguo delivers a report titled “AI Empowering Education and Teaching”

Wang Shuaiguo delivered a report titled “AI Empowering Education and Teaching: Major Changes in Higher Education and Talent Training Mode”. He introduced the development of the application of AI in teaching and Tsinghua University's exploration in AI empowering teaching, and shared his experience in developing pilot courses. The participating faculty members held discussions on “how to build a pilot course of AI empowering teaching”.

Lin Yanluan delivers a report titled “Survey of Global Atmospheric Science Courses”

Lin Yanluan shared the results of his research “A Survey of Global Atmospheric Science Courses”. He systematically reviewed the development of Atmospheric Science, surveyed the postgraduate course system construction of atmospheric science-related disciplines in world-class universities, and shared his insights on the postgraduate course construction on Atmospheric Science and the improvement of postgraduate training in the DESS.

Academician Chen Deliang rendered a concluding speech. He noted that he was very happy to participate in the DESS seminar on teaching, and gave advice for the construction of the course system of Atmospheric Science. Meanwhile, he hoped that the DESS would continue to push forward the discipline construction, systematically and scientifically refine the discipline direction, and build a world-class discipline of Earth system science in Tsinghua with Chinese characteristics.
