On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China, from May 11th to 12th, the Party Branch of the faculty and staff in Department of Earth System organized more than 20 full-time professors, post-docs and staff to have the practical education activities in the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base. The theme is " Remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind".

On the 11th, the faculty and practice group of the Department of Earth System Science went to the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery. In the solemn atmosphere of the cemetery, they presented elegiac couplets, and deeply remember the revolutionary martyrs who died heroically in the Chinese revolution. At the scene, everyone relived the hardships of the leadership of the Communist Party of China and the creation of the Jinggangshan Rural Revolutionary Base. They learned deeply about the revolutionary spirit of "seeking truth from facts, dare to explore and be brave in innovation".

On the evening of the 11th, the group came to the Jiangxi Cadre College to listen to the special report of the History of Jinggangshan Struggle and Jinggangshan Spirit by Professor Fangning Wu, former dean of the Correspondence School of the Party School of Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee. Professor Fangning Wu reviewed the glorious history of the Jinggangshan struggle with the students with detailed and precious historical materials and vivid and touching revolutionary deeds. She emphasized that in the new era of socialist construction, party members and comrades should inherit the red gene, and will continue to carry forward the spirit of Jinggangshan, which is determined to pursue the ideal, seek truth from facts, seek new ways, struggle through hard work, and rely on the masses to seek victory.

On the 12th, the group went to the East Maoping Old Residence and the Huangyangjie to carry out on-site teaching and visiting practice activities. In the practice teaching session of Zhu Mao Hongjun's grain-harvesting path, everyone experienced the heavy load on the rugged mountain road and realized the excellent style of the revolutionary ancestors taking the lead in labor, and one should not take our present happy life for granted.

The faculty and staff said that the spirit of Jinggangshan has profound scientific connotation and significance of the times. The spirit of "liberating thoughts and seeking truth from facts" deserves further understanding and practice. The faculty and staff of the Department of Earth System Science should actively create the intersection and innovation in the research activities, and build the world-class department in earth science as the historical mission, and strive for this common ideal and belief.
