June 3-5, the Department of Earth System Science organized the "2017 National Excellent students Summer Camp". The summer camp received a total of more than 130 application materials submitted by students all over the country. After the initial screening, identified 50 outstanding students from the Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Forestry University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Zhongshan University and other 26 colleges and universities, the students' total GPA of the first three years (or the first 5 semesters) ranked in the school with the level of the top 10%.

At the opening ceremony, Wu Haiping, deputy director of the Department of Earth System Science, gave a warm welcome speech and introduced the activities of the summer camp. Zhang Qiang, deputy director of the department that take charge of teaching, introduced the policy of administration of the post-graduate students and answered the questions that the students concerned. Then the teachers in each group introduced their respective research directions and characteristics.

Through three days of full schedule, campers communicated with professors through written examination, interviews and other aspects, and completed the final selection work through personal exhibitions, interactive discussions and other forms.

Summer camp aims to promote the exchange and learning of excellent college students, to enhance the understanding of the Earth System Science and Global Change of outstanding undergraduate students from domestic universities, making them feel the international education and scientific research atmosphere of the Department of Earth System Science, and select excellent students.
