Nowadays, the global climate is undergoing a significant change characterized by global warming which have a profound impact on human survival and development, constitute a common and huge challenge for the international community. The international scientific community continues to deepen our understanding on climate change and its interaction with human activities, and provide the scientific and decision-making basis to address the climate change. Mitigation and adaptation to climate change through cooperation and dialogue had become a consensus of the whole world. Addressing the climate change involves profound changes in the global economic and social development, it is a major task to achieve the United Nations goal of sustainable development, and related to the long-term benefits of human.
This course is a general course for all departments which consists of climate change science, impacts of climate change, adaptation and vulnerability, mitigation of climate change and so on. This course will also include the fact, cause and prediction of climate change, the impact of climate change on major industries, sectors and regions, the major policy initiatives and technical options for adaptation and mitigation to climate change, international climate change negotiations and the international regime , the synergy among addressing climate change ,environmental protection, achieving sustainable development and building ecological civilization, the climate change economics and climate ethics.
The course will proceed by multimedia education and panel discussion, lectures for large class and group discussions which can strengthen interaction between professors and students, promote both teaching and learning. Each topic is accompanied by questions thinking, which can promote students ability on the relevant issues and critical thinking. To improve effectiveness, the course will also organize the simulation negotiations for United Nations climate change and visit the Bureau of Meteorology. This evaluation of this course will be conducted by symposia, the performance of simulate debate and research reports.
As the climate change science is rapidly developing, global climate governance system is becoming more and more effective, this course will trace the newly development, the supplement and the updating teaching content.
This course is not only suitable for the undergraduate students from science and engineering, but also from humanities and social sciences, management and other disciplines.
