To further enhance the advantages of remote sensing technology and focus on the global change and ecological environment issues that are general concerned internationally , National Remote Sensing Center assembles related institutions to complete 《Global Ecological Environment Remote Sensing Monitoring 2013 Annual Report》and released it officially in June , 2014 .

As the expert in the expert group , CESS director Peng Gong led to complete the annual report “ area temporal and spatial distribution of large scale epicontinental waters ” through a large number of data’s analysis and integration about the status of 2012 global temporal and spatial distribution of large scale epicontinental waters , temporal and spatial distribution of large scale epicontinental waters of China and change of epicontinental waters in global typical areas . On the basis of 《global ecological environment remote sensing monitoring annual report 2012(part for area distribution status of epicontinental waters)》, this report selects lakes and reservoirs – important part of epicontinental waters , as monitoring targets to conduct years’ dynamic monitoring and temporal and spatial change analysis of epicontinental waters at different scales of global , continental , national , regional etc. . It which has certain characteristics and inherence not only can reveal the temporal and spatial variation , but also can serve efficiently for scientific research and government decision-making .

Global ecological environment remote sensing monitoring annual report is a pioneering and long-term work . Every year it will choose suitable topics to form report and reveal to all the world . National Remote Sensing Center and National key lab of remote sensing co-found ecological environmental remote sensing research center to establish long-term cooperation mechanism of annual report , including setting up adversary group and experts group . Since 2013 the Ministry of Science and Technology officially released the report to domestic and the other countries , it has a broad and positive impact all over the domestic . Therefore the 2013 annual report was expanded to terrestrial vegetation , large scale epicontinental waters , bulk green and oil crops and urban and rural construction land etc. It emphasizes the development and tracking of global ecological hot spot to promote the in-depth carrying out of China GEO .

June , 2014 , National Remote Sensing Center send a letter to thank for the work and contribution that professor Gong has done in the process of writing and revision the monitoring report .
