Introduction to the Lecture:

The social-ecological system is a coupling system formed by the interaction between human beings and environment. Driven by global change and human activities, both social system and ecosystem are in intensifying dynamic change. Understanding the interaction mechanism between them is the basis for realizing sustainable development. This report systematically introduces the classical research framework in the field of social-ecological system research, reviews the frontier hotspots of social-ecological system research, discusses the main imperative scientific problems to be addressed in the field of social-ecological system research, and briefly describes how to concretely conduct social-ecological system related research in the light of relevant cases.

Profile of the Speaker:

Fu Bojie obtained a joint doctorate from Peking University and Stirling University in the United Kingdom. He is Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Foreign Fellow of the American Academy of Humanities and Sciences, Academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences, Foreign Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and Honorary Fellow of Royal Geographical Society of the UK.

Fu Bojie is currently Researcher of the Center for Ecological Environment Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the Academic Committee, Honorary Director of the Department of Geographical Sciences of Beijing Normal University, Vice Chairman of the International Geographical Union (IGU) and Deputy Director of the National Expert Committee on Ecological Protection and Construction.

He is mainly engaged in the research of physical geography and landscape ecology, having made systematic innovations in land use structure and ecological process, landscape ecology and ecosystem services. He has published more than 500 academic papers, among which more than 300 have been published in SCI-indexed journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Geoscience and Nature Climate Change, as well as over ten monographs. His honors include the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievement Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award, the China Environmental Excellence Award and the Humboldt Medal of the European Geosciences Union, and was named CCTV Scientific and Technological Innovation Figure in 2019.
