As the 57th World Earth Day approaches, the Postgraduate League of the Department of Earth System Science (DESS), Tsinghua University, has launched a month-long series of World Earth Day events themed “Tsinghua Listens to the Earth”, carried out under the leadership of the DESS Party Committee, and with the guidance and support of the University Postgraduate Committee, Graduate Student Work Department, Student Psychological Counseling Center and other relevant departments.

From March to April 2026, working together with multiple academic departments, student associations and volunteer teams, the Postgraduate League organized a wide range of activities, including voluntary tree planting, eco-bottle crafting, distinguished guest academic lectures and World Earth Day roadshows. These events drew active participation from faculty, students, alumni, young people and the general public both on and off campus. The brand influence of “Tsinghua Listens to the Earth” has been steadily enhanced, enabling green and low-carbon concepts to take root across and beyond the Tsinghua campus.

Tree Planting

Guided by the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the 2026 “Tsinghua Listens to the Earth” World Earth Day Series Events focus on major contemporary themes including ecological progress, the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, and natural resource conservation. Leveraging the disciplinary strengths in Earth System Science, Tsinghua DESS keeps exploring an innovative path for integrated five-dimensional education featuring its own academic characteristics.

“Tsinghua Listens to the Earth” is more than just a series of themed activities for World Earth Day. It represents an ongoing dialogue about nature, science, responsibility and the future. Going forward, the DESS Postgraduate League will continue to build on its disciplinary strengths, innovate activity forms and enrich educational platforms. It will encourage all educators, students and citizens to cherish, explore and defend the Earth, harness the power of youth to support ecological progress, and bring the wisdom and strength of Tsinghua Earth System Science to the creation of a beautiful China featuring harmony between humanity and nature.
