Five faculty members from the Department of Earth System Science (DESS), Tsinghua University were named to Clarivate’s 2024 list of "Highly Cited Researchers," released on November 19, 2024. Among them, Professor Zhang Qiang was listed in both the Environment & Ecology and Geosciences categories. Professor Guan Dabo was recognized in the Environment & Ecology category, while Professors Yang Kun, Liu Zhu, and Associate Professor Tong Dan were selected in the Geosciences category.

This year, 6,886 Highly Cited Researcher 2024 awards were issued to 6,636 individuals globally for their highly cited papers, which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year. The number of researchers from the Chinese mainland on the list has shown consistent growth, increasing from 1,275 (17.9%) last year to 1,405 (20.4%) this year. Tsinghua University stands proudly with a total of 92 highly cited researchers, securing the fourth position globally and advancing one spot from the previous year, while also topping the list among domestic universities. The recognized researchers from Tsinghua University represent 21 schools and departments, spanning 11 ESI subject areas and interdisciplinary fields. Among these, interdisciplinary fields stand out with the largest number of highly cited researchers, totaling 44 awards.
