On the afternoon of October 21, the employment mobilization meeting for graduates of 2025 of the Department of Earth System Science (DESS), Tsinghua University was held in S818, Mong Man Wai Technology Building. Zhang Yang of Tsinghua University Career Development Center, Yu Le, head of the Graduate Affairs Office of the DESS, Xu Meng, director of employment, and Peng Xiaojuan, education administrator, attended the meeting. More than 30 doctoral students, including graduates of 2025, were present.
Zhang Yang provided an overview of the employment situation in recent years, detailing the various methods of employment selection and the procedures involved. He urged students to "aspire for greatness, join the mainstream, step onto the big stage, and achieve extraordinary things." He emphasized the importance of aligning personal career development with national progress and encouraged them to take root in areas where the motherland needs them.
Yu Le presented the talent development goals of the DESS along with the employment trends observed among its past graduates. He mentioned that the employment rate for doctoral graduates from the DESS has seen a consistent rise, furnishing top-tier talent to prestigious universities, research institutions, governmental bodies, and both domestic and international enterprises and organizations. Yu encouraged students to embody the qualities of being "focused" (proficient and diligent), "firm" (resolute and perseverant), and "healthy" (both physically and mentally robust), embarking on a steady path towards their career aspirations.
Peng Xiaojuan elaborated on the employment-related factors for doctoral students at Tsinghua University, including graduation requirements and processes. She urged soon-to-be graduates to keep a close eye on their academic progress, meticulously verify the completion of their training plans, and promptly ascertain their eligibility for graduation. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of students staying abreast of all critical announcements, comprehending the policies of the current academic year, submitting all necessary materials punctually, and preparing well ahead of time for their thesis defense.
Xu Meng outlined the employment procedure process and highlighted its pivotal aspects. She advised students to thoroughly familiarize themselves with the relevant information and devise plans well in advance as they transition from campus life to the working world. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, she urged them to remain composed and effectively leverage the university’s platform and resources. Given a comprehensive understanding of the employment landscape and their personal career aspirations, they would be full of confidence, making the most informed and beneficial career choices.
This employment mobilization meeting aimed to assist graduates in gaining a clear understanding of the fundamental process and associated requirements of securing employment. It also served to help students adjust their mindset as they navigate the graduation season, ensuring a smooth transition into the workforce. Looking ahead, the Practice and Employment Office of the DESS’s Graduate League Committee is planning to organize additional specialized career counseling events, offering graduates extensive employment-related support and assistance.
