On the afternoon of April 7, the Ceremony of Honorary Appointment for Pierre Friedlingstein was held in S818, Mong Man Wai Technology Building, Tsinghua University. Professor Luo Yong, Dean of the Department of Earth System Science (DESS) and Associate Professor Li Wei attended the ceremony. The Appointment Ceremony was hosted by Professor Liu Zhu.
Pierre Friedlingstein is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the European Academy of Sciences. He holds a Chair in Mathematical Modelling of the Climate System at the University of Exeter and is the director of the Centre national de la recherche scientifique in France. He has nearly 30 years of research experience in the field of global carbon cycle and climate simulation. Having conceived a climate-carbon feedback framework and participated in the coordination of international climate-carbon cycle modeling, Professor Friedlingstein is known as a pioneer in the research field of climate-carbon cycle coupling system.
Professor Luo Yong highly praised Professor Pierre Friedlingstein’s academic accomplishments in climate change and carbon cycling, and extended warm welcome and sincere thanks to him for accepting the appointment of Distinguished Visiting Professor. Meanwhile, Professor Luo expressed his expectation for strengthening communication and cooperation between the two sides to jointly promote the developments in related fields. Next, Professor Luo presented the Letter of Appointment of “Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University” to Pierre Friedlingstein.

After the ceremony, Pierre Friedlingstein delivered a report titled “Current sources and sinks of carbon dioxide and emissions mitigation in the context of the Paris Agreement”.
