To celebrate the 111th anniversary of the founding of Tsinghua University, and to enhance the communication between alumni and current students, the Department of Earth System Science (DESS), Tsinghua University held the Alumni Symposium 2022 on April 23rd. More than 20 DESS alumni were invited to share their insights about their study experiences in Tsinghua, and introduce the development status and prospects of their industries. Professor Luo Yong, Secretary of DESS Party Committee and Head of Department, Associate Professor Lu Hui, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, Associate Professor Yu Le, Head of Research Group, Chen Yawei, Deputy Director of General Office, and more than 20 students attended the meeting online or offline. The meeting was presided over by Lu Hui.
Luo Yong introduced the achievements of DESS in 2021, and elaborated the future development plan of DESS. He extended his gratitude to the alumni for their long-term support for the development of DESS, and hoped that current students could learn from alumni working in all walks of life.

In the sharing session, Li Haoran, an alumnus of the Class of 2021, reviewed his study at DESS. He noted that the relationship between DESS teachers and students is very close, and DESS teachers and senior students have set good examples. He wished that he would make more achievements in his future work and have more opportunities to return to his alma mater and exchange views.
Feng Zhao, an alumnus of the Class of 2019, is currently working at the grassroots level. In his speech, he noted that his identity and role had changed significantly since graduation. Given his current work experience, he felt that his responsibilities were becoming weightier. Feng Zhao suggested that students planning to engage in grassroots service work should seriously consider their inner expectations and needs before making career choices.
Wang Wei, an alumnus of 2017, hoped that current students would cherish their time in the university, explore bravely, and seize the precious opportunities of trial and error and correction. At the same time, as Tsinghua students, they should be concerned with the future of our country, integrate their personal career with the national strategy, constantly develop themselves, and live up to the expectations of the country and society. Liang Jie, Zhang Jie, Li Qingshan, Xu Nan, Liu Xiaoxuan, Huang Guorui and many other alumni also shared their experiences and insights.
