The Department of Earth System Sciences started preparations for the general election for the new session of the labor union committees in October 2017. In line with the principle of "fairness and transparency", the election fully gives full play to the democratic rights of members. According to the "Articles of Association of the Chinese Trade Unions" and the "Interim Regulations on the Election of Trade Unions at the Grassroots Level", the work should be conducted in strict accordance with the general process of the school labor union.

On November 6, the Department of Earth Sciences set up a mobile ballot box. A total of 56 ballot papers were issued and 42 ballot papers were returned, of which 42 were valid and 0 were abolished, exceeding two thirds of the required number of people. The ballot papers were valid. After the election results were reported to the General Party Branch and the Standing Committee of the 20th Session of the Committee of the Chinese Education Union Tsinghua University, five new members eventually emerged.

The union committee of the Department of Earth System Science will work closely with the party and government to better serve all faculty and staff.
