Introduction to the Lecture:
The uneven distribution of medical resources has been explored with different research methods and approaches in public health and geography, leading to significant research gaps due to disciplinary differences. SIEW Lab (Social Infrastructure Laboratory for Equity and Well Being Lab) of the University of Hong Kong is dedicated to integrating the theoretical perspectives and analytical advantages of public health and geography, and exploring comprehensive research approaches to understand the multi-dimensional and multi-scale characteristics of uneven distribution of medical resources in China. In this academic exchange, three related studies carried out by SIEW Lab will be introduced: 1) Multi-scale characteristics and formation mechanism of uneven distribution of quality medical resources in China; 2) Cross-city medical treatment in different places and its influence on the balance and efficiency of medical resources; 3) Differences in the distribution of doctor and bed resources in China and influencing factors. These three studies present a comprehensive approach to deeply understand the complexity of the medical system from a geographical perspective, and propose several possible ways to further break the division between the disciplines of public health and geography
