Tsinghua University (Beijing, China, 100084), Center for Earth System Science with a focus on global change issues, invites applications for 5 tenure track or tenured positions in climate system modeling at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level (in reference to major research universities in the US or Canada). The appointments will be for 9 months with salary (between 200,000 to 800,000 RMB) commensurate with experience and qualifications. The positions will be available starting as soon as can be mutually agreed and will remain open until filled.

Applicants should have expertise in climate system modeling or related fields. Successful candidates will develop independent research that complements existing strengths in earth system modeling and global change studies in the Center. Each appointee will be expected to develop a program of research in one or more of the following areas with more detailed description found in http://www.cess.tsinghua.edu.cn:

1. Physical processes and dynamic core for ocean models

2. Atmospheric boundary layer turbulence for atmospheric models

3. Atmospheric aerosols for atmospheric models

4. Atmospheric radiation for atmospheric models

5. Physical processes for land surface models

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a field appropriate for the research area. Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate lecture-laboratory course or the development of a graduate course in an area consistent with the individual’s area of interest and Center needs.

Tsinghua University plans to establish a new Department of Earth System Science with earth system modeling as an emphasis to integrate related natural science and social science disciplines.
