Future Earth, a global scientific programme for sustainable development, brings together experts across natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, policy and practical sectors to advance interdisciplinary and transregional collaboration. The initiative delivers actionable knowledge and solutions to address global environmental changes and advance sustainable development. Launched around 2012 based on former global environmental change research programmes, Future Earth serves as a vital international platform bridging science, policy and social action.
Its daily operations are managed by a distributed Global Secretariat, rather than a single headquarters. The Secretariat currently consists of multiple Global Hubs located in Africa, Canada, China, France, Japan, South Asia, Sweden, the United States and other regions. These hubs jointly coordinate the work of global research networks, regional partners and national and local networks.
