Recently, the American Geophysical Union (AGU) announced the results of the selection of AGU Fellows in 2024. A group of 53 individuals in the world won this honor (three from the Chinese mainland), and Professor Guan Dabo from the Department of Earth System Science (DESS), Tsinghua University was among them.

Founded in 1919, the American Geophysical Union (AGU) is the world’s largest and most influential union of earth and space scientists, with more than 60,000 registered members. AGU Fellow is one of the highest honors of the international earth and space science community. Since 1962, AGU has elected no more than 0.1% of its members as new fellows every year in recognition of their pioneering work and outstanding contributions in their respective fields.

Profile of Professor Guan Dabo

Guan Dabo is a Chair Professor of Basic Science in Tsinghua University, Vice President of the Institute for Carbon Neutrality, Tsinghua University, and a leading expert of China's Ministry of Science and Technology's "EU-China Flagship Initiative on Climate Change and Biodiversity" in the 14th Five-Year Plan. He has been long dedicated to studying the causes, impacts and countermeasures of climate change, analyzing the driving factors of greenhouse gas emissions and exploring the global and national sustainable development pathways of low carbon and low resource consumption. Since 2018, he has been elected as Clarivate’s Highly-Cited Researcher for consecutive years. Other honors he has won include the Cozzarelli Prize, the World’s 100 Most Influential Papers in 2018 and 2020, and the XPLORER Prize in 2024.
