On March 4, a delegation led by Xia Yingxian, Director General of the Department of Climate Change Response of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), visited the Department of Earth System Science (DESS) at Tsinghua University for an exchange and research meeting. Attendees included Academician Chen Deliang of Tsinghua DESS, Luo Yong (Chair of Tsinghua DESS), and Yang Xiu (Assistant Dean of the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Tsinghua University), as well as other faculty members.
Professor Luo Yong first extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the Department of Climate Change Response of MEE and provided a comprehensive overview of Tsinghua DESS's historical background, research achievements, and future research plans in the field of climate change adaptation. Yang Xiu then introduced the research background and outcomes of the relevant work carried out by the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

The meeting in session
During the discussion session, participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on the drafting of the national top-level design document for climate change adaptation, and put forward recommendations and suggestions for key tasks in the special plan.
Director General Xia Yingxian highly affirmed Tsinghua University's research work in the field of climate change adaptation. He pointed out that China's current climate adaptation efforts still face challenges such as an incomplete policy system, fragmented work, dispersed actions across departments, and a lack of targeted measures, as well as deficiencies in data sharing, indicator system development, and technological research and development. To implement national policies and achieve the goal of basically building a climate-resilient society by 2035, it is necessary to comprehensively enhance climate adaptation capacity by level, by stage, and by priority.
Following this meeting, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and Tsinghua University will continue to organize thematic seminars to further leverage the scientific and technological supporting role of the university.
