On January 12th, 2013, the 2012 award ceremony of “Tsinghua University----Inspur Group Computational Earth Science Talent Award” was held at multi-function hall, FIT Building, Tsinghua University. Zhang Chaolin, who is the director of Earth Science Division of National Natural Science Foundation, Prof. Gong Peng, who is the director of CESS, Prof. Wang Bin, who is the vice president of Global Change Institute of Tsinghua University, and Prof. Yang Guangwen, who is the director of Institute of HPC and Key Laboratory for Earth System Numerical Simulation attended this ceremony.

Prof. Wang Bin, the president of award committee announced the winners. The 5 winners are Wang Kaicun, a professor from Beijing Normal University, Wang Yuxuan, an associate professor from Tsinghua University, Ren Hongli, an associate research professor from National Climate Center, Li Lijuan, an associate research professor from Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zhang Huai, a professor from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The award-selection is based on experts’ recommendation and there are 23 recommendations in total. The final winners are determined after three rounds of appraisal carried out by experts in Computational Earth science who had examined how close their achievement is related to Computational Earth science, and who had evaluated their academic innovation as well as their contribution to the discipline.

“Tsinghua University----Inspur Group Computational Earth Science Talent Award” was co-founded by Tsinghua University and Inspur Group in 2012. It consists of “Young Talent Award” and “Outstanding Student Award”. “Outstanding Student Award” is mainly awarded to students in Tsinghua University. Geng Guannan, a PhD Candidate from School of Environment, Wang Yingqiao, a postgraduate from Department of Computer Science, and Li Qing, a doctoral student from CESS received “Outstanding Student Award”.
