What are the progress and challenges of China's goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality given the momentous changes of a scale unseen in a century? This report systematically expounds the nature of climate change from four aspects: the critical period before peaking, overall coordination and balance, green innovation and competition, green finance and energy security, analyzes the nature of establishing the new before abolishing the old, and puts forward solutions to achieve the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality from the perspectives of scientific and technological innovation and green finance.

Profile of the Speaker

Liu Yanhua is Chairman of the Innovation Method Society, Honorary Director of the National Expert Committee on Climate Change, and Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. He used to serve as Vice Minister and member of the Party Group of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and as Counselor of the State Council. Minister Liu Yanhua has been engaged in research and scientific and technological management in the fields of innovative methods, climate change, resources and environment, green development, risk management and sustainable development for a long time, and served as Deputy Director of the National Committee of Experts on Ecological Environmental Protection, Consultant of the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development, and Consultant of the International Risk Management Council (IRGC). As Editor-in-Chief of China Population Resources and Environment, Mr. Liu has written and edited more than 30 monographs and published more than 150 papers at home and abroad.
