On May 10, the third Party branch of the faculty and staff of Department of Earth System Science (DESS), the 15th Party Branch and the 17th Party Branch of Earth System Science Research Center, conducted Communist Party History Study and Education, Associative Cooperation Activity of Teachers and Students with the theme of " Party History Learning of Developing a New Era of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics" in the S818 Conference Room of the South Building of MENG Minwei Science and Technology Building. A total of more than 50 teachers, students, Party members and activists participated in the activity and communicated and learned together. WU Haiping, Deputy Secretary of the General Party Branch of the Department, and HUANG Xiaomeng, member of the GeneralParty Branch of the Department, attended the event as contacts of the General Party Branch of the Department.

In the study and communication session, the 17th Party Branch of Earth System Science Research Center conducted a detailed interpretation of major events in Party history from 1978 to 1999.Seven graduate Party members successively did projected study sharing in respect of Party’s Third Plenum of the 11^th, the four basic principles, reformation of economic system, establishment of special economic zones, the pattern of opening-up, the formation of DENG Xiaoping Theory, DENG Xiaoping’s talks in the South, the enrichment and development of DENG Xiaoping Theory, and returns of Hong Kong and Macau.WANG Jingmeng, secretary of the 17th Party branch of Earth System Science Research Center, systematically sorted out knowledge of the learning sharing of the seven graduate Party members.

With the development of Party history as the context, centering on four themes including the great historical turning point and the found of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, pushing forward Socialism with Chinese Characteristics comprehensively into the 21st century, adhering to and developing Socialism with Chinese Characteristics under the new situation, and the entry of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics into new era, communicated and learned on the development of Party history in new era. Sixteen graduate Party members from the 15th Party branch of the Earth System Science Research Center successively introduced the Party's reform measures and development results in terms of national policies, strategic layout, national economy and people's livelihood since the Reform and Opening-up.

Subsequently, faculty and staff members of the third Party branch ofDESScarried out "reading Party history, speaking Party history, and understanding the original heart" characteristic Party history study communication speech according to the development of their hometowns since the Reform and Opening-up. Four faculty and staff members introduced the changes in food, clothing, housing and transportation since the Reform and Opening-up in four regions, which are Wuhan, Beijing, Shandong, and Henan. They elaborated the immense changes in their hometowns after the Reform and Opening-up from their own personal experience, and felt courage, wisdom and boldness in the development of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the new era of Party and government. The faculty and Party members also reviewed their original mission to devote themselves to constructing a world-class geoscience discipline in combination with their own work, and organically integrating and mutually promoting Party history learning and daily education work.

In the communication and summary session, WU Haiping said that the teachers and students ofDESSare fully prepared to study the history of the Communist Party of China. Party history study of the postgraduate Party branch is "organized", and of the faculty and staff is "grounded". Form of learning is vivid and novel, which achieved the purpose of the learning activity to promote communication and enhance effectiveness. WU Haiping also said that associative cooperation of teachers and students to carry out Party history study and education should further integrate the history of Tsinghua University and the history ofDESS. Graduate students should focus on discipline construction and technological innovation, and employees should strive to build a high-level administrative team, keeping original aspiration and mission of the Chinese Communists in mind all the time, and gathering strength and working hard to build a world-class geoscience discipline constantly.
